Public Health Alert – Cluster of Delaware Overdose Poisonings Involving Bromazol

What You Need To Know

The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) has been notified of increased reports of bromazolam poisonings in Delaware. Bromazolam is a novel and potent benzodiazepine. On April 28 and 29, 2024, the Delaware Poison Control Center was contacted regarding several cases of severe poisoning associated with the use of a white-powder drug. These cases have predominantly originated near the eastern part of Delaware. Testing of specimens has identified multiple substances in the specimens, in addition to bromazolam.

The New Jersey Poison Control Center (NJPIES) and New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) are monitoring for bromazolam involved overdoses and deaths. This health alert provides background information regarding the bromazolam involved Delaware cases, clinical reports of poisonings/symptoms to date and recommendations for providers.
