Please find below the NJDOH vector-borne surveillance report for week 35.
Report highlights:
- New Jersey is reporting one new West Nile Virus (WNV) case in Essex County and two new presumptive viremic blood donors (PVD) in Mercer and Ocean counties. To date, there are five WNV cases and PVDs.
- Since last week’s report, 117 additional mosquito pools tested positive for WNV, for a total of 916 positive pools. The cumulative minimum infection rate is highest in Mercer and Hudson counties. The average number of Culex mosquitoes, which are associated with WNV transmission, remains highest in Hudson County.
- One mosquito pool tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in Cape May County. No human or animal EEE cases have been reported in 2026.
- One additional mosquito pool tested positive for Jamestown Canyon Virus (JCV) in Monmouth County, for a total of three positive mosquito pools this season. No human JCV cases have been reported in 2026.
- The number of Lyme disease cases reported this week continues to be below historical averages.
- The number of tick-related emergency department visits continued to decrease and remains consistent with historical averages.
