A Message from the Directors
It’s hard to believe, but 2023 is rapidly winding down. We hope all of you are able to take some time to relax with your family and friends.
In April, our three nationally-recognized neuroscience institutes at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), JFK University Medical Center (JFKUMC) and Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC), united under the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute to form the largest, most comprehensive Neuroscience Institute in the state. By coming together as one institute with a shared vision and mission, we have strengthened our ability to provide integrated access to care and research for patients throughout New Jersey.
The Neuroscience Institute continues to expand its programs, adding new clinicians and premiere technology that cannot be found at most other institutions. We’ve added Quicktome brain mapping technology at all three locations, Globus Excelsius Robotic navigation platform at HUMC, high intensity focused ultrasound (HiFU) for treating essential tremor and Parkinson’s related tremor at JSUMC, and laser interstitial thermal therapy technology to treat drug-resistant epilepsy at JFKUMC. And, beginning this fall, the Dr. Robert H. and Mary Ellen Harris ZAP-X Center for Noninvasive Neurosurgery
at Jersey Shore University Medical Center became the first location in the world to integrate ZAP-X® Gyroscopic Radiosurgery® with Synaptive’s Brain-Only Silent MRI. The center and combination of life saving equipment was made possible by a very generous gift from Mrs. Mary Ellen Harris and the Golden Dome Foundation.
Congratulations to Hackensack University Medical Center for being the state’s only Neurology & Neurosurgery program to be ranked in the top 25 nationally and JFK University Medical Center for being nationally recognized as High Performing in Neurology & Neurosurgery by U.S. News and World Report. Congratulations also go to the 10 Hackensack Meridian Health hospitals who earned recognition for high performing stroke care.
