Hackensack Meridian Health CEO Robert C Garrett recognized as one of Modern Healthcares Most Influential People in Healthcare

Hackensack Meridian Health is proud to announce that Robert C. Garret, FACHE, chief executive officer of Hackensack Meridian Health has been named to Modern Healthcare’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare of 2022. This prestigious recognition program acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential figures in the industry in terms of leadership and impact. Garrett ranked number 60 on the list. For over four decades Mr. Garrett has served the Hackensack Meridian Health organization. He began his career at Hackensack Meridian University Medical Center in 1981, becoming president and CEO in 2009. When Hackensack University Health Network merged with Meridian Health in 2016, Mr. Garrett was chosen to lead the newly founded network as CEO. He has pioneered innovations in healthcare experiences, education and leadership.

As CEO, Mr. Garret has led the network through the launch of dozens of initiatives to advance medical education, research and innovation,  diversity, equity and inclusion, health equity and positive change in the communities Hackensack Meridian Health serves. Mr. Garrett has expanded the network’s impact by opening New Jersey’s first private medical school in 60 years and the Center for Discovery and Innovation. He helped transform behavioral healthcare through  a merger with Carrier Clinic, a regional leader in mental health services and addiction treatment. Each of these contributions has made for a healthier New Jersey, especially since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Garrett is recognized as a national leader in healthcare and serves on several boards, including as chair of the American Hospital Association Systems Council Committee. He has also offered his time and expertise abroad, most recently joining international panel of experts at the United Nations which developed uniform global standards to help healthcare providers identify and aid victims of human trafficking, protocols now sent to the World Health Organization for adoption. Hackensack Meridian Health participated in a pilot program with five other leading healthcare organizations sponsored by Global Strategic Operatives, a non-profit humanitarian organization, research that has led to evidence-based recommendations to create a new global protocol which is now before the World Health Organization for approval.
