Jersey Shore Honors Residents and Fellows at Annual Graduation Ceremony

More than 50 residents and fellows at Jersey Shore University Medical Center were honored at the annual graduation ceremony in the Kurr Atrium on June 14.

Chief hospital executive Vito Buccellato provided opening remarks, thanking the graduates for their dedication to patient care. He also thanked parents, spouses, and significant others for supporting the residents during their training.

David Kountz, M.D., MBA, vice president, Academic Affairs, encouraged the residents to practice patience – spending a few extra few minutes to allow patients to tell their story, and remind them of the importance of working in teams as they continue in their careers.

Steven Kairys, M.D., outgoing chair of Pediatrics, led the graduates in a recitation of the Hippocratic Oath. Also, Hannah Adumusa, M.D., PGY-1, and Ishan Patel, M.D., PGY-1, received intern of the Year Awards from the Department of Medicine Chief Residents.

Dr. Kairys and other faculty members who are retiring or will be leaving Jersey Shore, including Kathleen Casey, M.D.; Deborah Gussman, N.D.; Stephen Rice, MD, PhD and Paul Schwartzberg, D.O., were acknowledged for their significant contributions to the residency program.

The ceremony concluded with a reception in the Brennan Courtyard.
