William Fleischman, M.D. recently presented at the International Society for Quality in Healthcare’s (ISQua) annual meeting in Cape Town, South Africa. Dr. Fleischman presented on the work of Global Health Data @ Work (GHD@Work).

Dr. Fleischman presentation focused on an overview of Global Health Data @ Work in an Oral “Lightning Poster” session. He discussed GHD@Work’s path over the past decade, including work on developing and validating multiple risk adjustment models, a project at Coventry Hospital that led to a substantial reduction in AMI mortality, stroke care enhancements leading to financial savings, and planned collaboratives on transplant care, reducing hospital acquired infections, and on patient-reported outcome measures, and health system efficiency.

Participants included health professionals and researchers from Taiwan, Germany, USA, Austria, Brazil, and Poland.  A discussion ensued around how the data sharing is structured (e.g. what data can each member of the collaborative access), and on legal barriers to sharing data with international partners.

In addition, renowned experts opined on the state and vision forward for healthcare worldwide.  There were also a variety of breakout sessions, oral posters, and hundreds of abstract posters to peruse and discuss with presenters and authors.

ISQua is the leading international Healthcare Quality society, and its annual conference draws hundreds of healthcare quality experts and researchers from across the globe. The conference is held in a different country each year.
