Specialty Update Obstructive Sleep Apnea Services at HUMC and JSUMC

What you need to know
The Institute for Sleep Wake Disorders at HUMC has a new program for admitted patients with suspected and undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation (UAS) therapy is now available at HUMC and JSUMC for patients with OSA who are unable to use Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy.

- An APN navigator performs STOP BANG screening on patients who have potential risk for OSA. Patients who screen positive will undergo a comprehensive evaluation.
- The APN then collaborates with the primary doctor regarding his/her preference for follow-up and/or outpatient sleep testing, if warranted.
