HUMC and JSUMC Seeking Participants for a PEMF Alzheimers Dementia Treatment Clinical Trial

What You Need To Know

Hackensack Meridian Health is participating in a clinical research study using a non-invasive device to treat Alzheimer’s dementia.  The device is a headband worn three times a day for 15 minutes. The research team is seeking 18 individuals to participate in the study. Both Hackensack University Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center are studying the effects of pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) as a treatment for Alzheimer’s dementia in the study. The randomized, controlled pilot study protocol is designed to assess whether the device can further demonstrate safety and efficacy for patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s dementia. To be eligible for the study, a potential participant must:
  • Be between the ages of 50 - 85
  • Be diagnosed with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s dementia
  • Have achieved at least an eighth-grade level of education
  • Have a spouse, family member or caregiver who agrees and can oversee participation of the patient in the study
There is no cost to participate in this study.  Compensation will be discussed with participants at the time of signing an informed consent. Participants may be compensated for visits, follow-ups, and travel. The study is being conducted in collaboration with the Hackensack Meridian Health departments of neurology and psychiatry under the supervision of Manisha Perulekar, M.D. at HUMC and Robert Stern, M.D. at JSUMC.
