What You Need To Know
There are only 15 remaining slots available for patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s dementia to participate in a research study that will be starting soon. The study is being conducted in collaboration with the departments of neurology and psychiatry under the supervision of Manisha Perulekar, M.D. at HUMC and Robert Stern, M.D. at JSUMC. The research study uses a non-invasive device to treat Alzheimer’s dementia. The device is a headband worn three times a day for 15 minutes. Both HUMC and JSUMC are studying the effects of pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) as a treatment for Alzheimer’s dementia in the study. The randomized, controlled pilot study protocol is designed to assess whether the device can further demonstrate safety and efficacy for patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s dementia. To be eligible for the study, a potential participant must:- Be between the ages of 50 - 85
- Be diagnosed with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s dementia
- Have achieved at least an eighth-grade level of education
- Have a spouse, family member or caregiver who agrees and can oversee participation of the patient in the study
