About the Human Rights Campaign Foundation

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation is the educational arm of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization. The designations given in 2019 were awarded in the 12th edition of HRC’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI).

A record 680 health care facilities actively participated in the HEI 2019 survey. The facilities were evaluated based on the following: non-discrimination and staff training, patient services and support, employee benefits and policies, and patient and community engagement.

Eight Hackensack Meridian Health hospitals participated in HEI’s 2019 survey. In 2018, Hackensack University Medical Center was the only hospital to earn a perfect score of 100. In 2020, the network plans for all hospitals to participate in the HEI survey, with the goal of scoring in the top percentile.
