Amy Frieman MD MBA FAAHPM Named Chief Wellness Officer

Amy Frieman, M.D., MBA, FAAHPM, has been appointed chief wellness officer (CWO) for the network effective January 2, 2020.
Dr. Frieman will lead the efforts that focus on the well-being of our clinicians and will establish network-level interventions to optimize the delivery of patient care in a manner that allows them to spend less time burdened by administrative tasks and more time interacting with patients. She will also integrate the wellness activities that currently exist across the network while developing a shared vision for new program development and implementation.
Experience
Dr. Frieman has supported her teams in the establishment of clinician wellness initiatives, including Code Lavender, Moment of Silence and Compassion Fatigue programs across the network. She has also worked with the Medical Society of New Jersey and the American Medical Association to study physician burnout and implement practice transformation interventions. She has assisted in the development of a research program assessing resident burnout and evaluating targeted interventions to combat it. Dr. Frieman serves as our network’s clinical lead for the Clinician Experience Project that aims to create a community of physicians and bring joy back into the practice of medicine.
Dr. Frieman joined Hackensack Meridian Health in 2010 and has served as corporate medical director of Palliative Care Services, growing palliative care into a true continuum of care program across 21 locations in the Central and Southern regions. Under her leadership, our palliative care program obtained the American Hospital Association’s Circle of Life Citation of Honor for innovative hospice and palliative care programs.
Prior to joining Hackensack Meridian Health, Dr. Frieman served as an assistant professor in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, educating medical students and residents while providing primary and palliative care to a homebound population. Dr. Frieman’s academic career includes a special focus on burnout among medical residents and the intersection of medicine and the humanities.
Education
Dr. Frieman received her Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Medical Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and performed her residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She also received a master’s degree in Business Administration from Monmouth University.
In 2016, Dr. Frieman was named an Inspirational Leader in Hospice and Palliative Medicine under 40 by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is currently an assistant professor at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University and a clinical assistant professor at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine.
